The deal allows the agency to sell images posted on Twitpic for publication, and to pursue legal action against those who use such images commercially without its permission, according to the agency.

Twitpic is still the king of Twitter photo sharing sites, according to Compete's data showing each site's audience size. But Yfrog and Plixi (formerly Tweetphoto) are not far behind. And Twitpic's traffic seems to be trending down.

Meanwhile, the "next-gen" Twitter photo apps, Instagram and Picplz, are growing nicely. Instagram -- which has barely developed its website -- is already about one-fourth of Twitpic's reach, according to Compete. And Picplz is growing the fastest, relatively speaking, as it taps the fast-growing Android platform.
